چکیده

method for detecting lesions in the ribs, sternum and vertebrae. However, it is difficult to count the ribs as the ribs are arranged obliquely in the axial plane. With the introduction of multidetector-row CT (MDCT), the bones of thorax can be clearly examined in three-dimensional images, although the axial images are most commonly used in clinical practice. There are three known methods for counting ribs on axial images. One is the method of counting from the first rib seen below the proximal end of the clavicle (Bhalla et al. 1990) (1). Another is the method of counting, from the seventh costal cartilages, those ribs that J Korean Radiol Soc 2007;57:145-150

Purpose: Rib anomalies include numerical and structural categories. This study investigates the costal abnormalities by computed tomography scan in an Iranian population. Methods: In a retrospective study, 400 Chest CT scans (225 (56.2%) male, and 175 (43.8%) female) aging from 18 to 89 were investigated for one year (2020 to 2021). Images were carefully observed and various abnormalities suc...

Comparison of the Effects of Three Different Counting Methods on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Quality and Rescuer Fatigue

Background: Chest compression with adequate depth and number is one of the main indicators of high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Nevertheless, no proper counting technique is suggested to provide sufficient number of massages. Aim: To compare the effects of three techniques of chest compression counting on the quality of CPR and rescuer fatigue. Method: Inthis clinical trial, 30 ...

Segmentation of Individual Ribs from Low-dose Chest CT

Segmentation of individual ribs and other bone structures in chest CT images is important for anatomical analysis, as the segmented ribs may be used as a baseline reference for locating organs within a chest as well as for identification and measurement of any geometric abnormalities in the bone. In this paper we present a fully automated algorithm to segment the individual ribs from low-dose c...

Dose Reduction Methods in Chest Computed Tomography

Introduction: Computed tomography is one of the most powerful tools for investigating thorax disease, because it shows progression of lung disease much clearer than chest radiography. Technical advances in CT scanners have led to some abilities for CT scanners such as coverage of larger volume, lower noise and ability for acquiring image in one respiratory phase. However, this will be accompani...
